RangeWise Privacy Policy

Effective date: 5 August 2026

RangeWise (“the app”) is made by TradeSmart Safety. The app is built privacy-first: your shooting data belongs to you and stays on your phone.

What the app stores — on your device only

The app keeps its data in a local database on your phone. This includes your range sessions and notes, target photos and shot marks, packing checklists, registered products, hearing-check results, saved ranges, and settings. This data is never uploaded, synced, or sent to us or anyone else. The app has no analytics, no ads, and no tracking of any kind.

The app also keeps a small number of items in your phone’s secure keychain: your discount codes and their expiry dates, and — only if you link a TradeSmart account — your account details and the sign-in credential the app uses to read your own course progress. These are listed one by one in the sections below.

The app has no account system of its own. There is no RangeWise sign-up, no RangeWise password, and no RangeWise user record anywhere. Linking a TradeSmart account (below) is optional and links to the account you already have on our course site.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Camera — to scan the barcode on a TradeSmart product and to photograph your targets. Photos stay on your device.
  • Location — only to show gun ranges near you. Your location is used on the device and never transmitted to us. The range directory ships inside the app, so finding ranges works with no network at all.
  • Notifications — range-day reminders are scheduled locally on your phone. There are no push notifications and no server involved.

Online features — every one is optional and started by you

The app works completely offline. Nothing below is required to use it. The app does not contact TradeSmart’s server unless you tap something that needs it, and if any of these fail the app simply carries on.

About your email address, plainly: there are exactly two places your email address reaches us, and you start both of them by typing it in yourself.

  1. When you ask us to email you your registration code (see “Email me my registration code” below) — the app sends the address you type to our server.
  2. When you sign in to the Firearm Confidence Course with a password — that is an ordinary website login inside the app, so the email and password you type go to the course site the same way they would in a browser. If your account is linked, the app uses a one-time sign-in link instead and you never type either.

Nowhere else, and never in the background. Both go only to learn.tradesmartsafety.com, a site we control. No other feature in the app sends an email address anywhere.

All of these talk to one host we control, learn.tradesmartsafety.com, over HTTPS.

1. Get your first-order discount code

  • What is sent: nothing. The request has an empty body and carries no identifier of any kind — no email, no account, no device id, no advertising id, no install id.
  • What comes back: a single-use discount code, the percentage off, and an expiry date.
  • What is stored: the code and its expiry, in your phone’s secure keychain. It stays on the device so you can find it again.
  • Optional: yes. It happens only when you tap to claim the offer.

2. Link your TradeSmart account with a registration code

  • What is sent: the registration code you type in. Nothing else.
  • What comes back: your account details — your WordPress user id on our course site, the email address or username that account uses, and your display name — plus what you are entitled to (your tier, whether you have course access, and any discount code), a one-time link that signs you in to the course, and a password our server creates so the app can read your own course progress.
  • What is stored: those account details, the entitlements, the discount code and the app-created password, in your phone’s secure keychain. The one-time sign-in link is used immediately and never stored.
  • Optional: yes. It happens only when you enter a code and tap to link.

3. Email me my registration code

  • What is sent: the email address you type in. Nothing else. This is one of the two places described above where an email address reaches us.
  • What comes back: the same confirmation message every time — we do not tell the app whether that address has a TradeSmart registration. If it does, we email the code to it.
  • What is stored: nothing about the address. The app keeps only a timestamp noting when it may ask again.
  • Optional: yes. It happens only when you open the recovery box, type an address and tap send.

4. Register a scanned product to your linked account

  • What is sent: the 13-digit barcode number from the product box, together with the app-created password from step 2 so we know which account it belongs to.
  • What comes back: the product’s name, SKU and category, whether we have matched it to an order yet, and your updated entitlements.
  • What is stored: the updated entitlements and any discount code, in the keychain. The product itself is recorded in the app’s local database.
  • Optional: yes — and it only happens at all if you have linked an account. If you have not linked an account, scanning a barcode makes no network call whatsoever; the scan unlocks the app’s owner features on that phone alone.

5. Sign in to your Firearm Confidence Course

The course opens inside the app in a web view, pointed at our own course site.

  • If you have linked an account (step 2): the app fetches a fresh one-time sign-in link and opens it. You never type a password and the app never stores one.
  • If you have not linked an account: you can save your course email and password instead. They are kept in your phone’s secure keychain and are sent only to our own course site to sign you in — the same as logging in with a browser. “Remove Saved Login” deletes them from your device.

6. Your course-completion badge

  • What is sent: the app-created password from step 2 (or one the app made during course sign-in), used to read your own course record.
  • What comes back: your progress on the course.
  • What is stored: two things only — whether the course is completed, and the date.
  • Optional: yes. This runs only if a course credential exists on the device, and it stops for good once the course is marked complete.

7. Opening the TradeSmart store

After you claim a discount code, the offer screen can open our store in your phone’s normal web browser, with the code already applied. The app hands over only the discount code that is in the link. Anything you do on the store site after that is covered by the store’s own privacy policy, not this one.

8. Emails, phone calls and directions

Buttons that email us, call a range, or open directions hand the address, phone number or map coordinates to your own mail, phone or maps app. Nothing is sent to us.

Two things that happen automatically

These are the only network activity the app performs without you tapping something. Neither one carries your shooting data, your account details or your email address. One of them does send a random installation identifier, and that is set out in full below.

  • App updates. When the app starts, it checks for a software update from our update service (Expo Application Services, at u.expo.dev), so we can fix things without you reinstalling. This check sends a randomly generated installation identifier, your device’s operating system and platform, and the app’s version information. The identifier is not linked to your name, your account, or any shooting data. It is not used for advertising or analytics. It exists only to tell us whether an installation has already received an update. It is regenerated if you reinstall the app. No shooting session, checklist, or product data ever leaves your device.
  • Map tiles. The range map is drawn by the map service built into your phone (Apple Maps on iPhone, Google Maps on Android). That component is part of your phone’s operating system and is covered by that provider’s privacy policy. We do not send it your location; if you allow location, your phone shows your own position on the map locally.

If the app has crashed before, the same update check also carries a short crash message — the error text from the previous crash, cut off after about a thousand characters. It helps us see that a released version broke. It contains no shooting data and no account details.

The update check is run by the Expo software toolkit the app is built with, not by our own code. The identifier it sends is called EAS-Client-ID. We cannot turn that header off and still ship updates.

Exporting your data

You can export your session log as a CSV file at any time from the Sessions screen. The export goes only where you choose to send it via your phone’s share sheet.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling the app deletes all app data from your device. You can also remove things separately:

  • “Remove Saved Login” deletes your saved course email and password.
  • Unlinking your account deletes the stored account details, entitlements and the app-created password from your device.
  • Removing either of those deletes it from your phone. It does not delete your TradeSmart course account itself — for that, email us at the address below.

What we never do

  • We do not collect, sell, share, or monetize your data. There are no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app.
  • Your shooting data — sessions, notes, target photos, shot marks, checklists, hearing-check results, saved ranges — is never sent anywhere.
  • The app’s own code never sends a device identifier, an advertising id, a push token, or your location. There is no advertising id in the app at all, and no identifier of any kind is attached to anything you record.
  • We do not ask for, and have no way to learn, what firearms you own, your calibers, or your serial numbers.

The one exception: the update check sends an installation id

We would rather say this plainly than let you find it later. The automatic update check described above sends a randomly generated installation identifier to our update service.

  • It is a random number made when you install the app. It is not your name, your email, your account, your phone’s serial number, or an advertising id.
  • It is never attached to your sessions, photos, checklists or any other shooting data, and it is never used for advertising, analytics or profiling.
  • Its only job is to tell whether an installation has already received an update.
  • Reinstalling the app makes a new one. (A phone backup or a device-to-device restore can carry the old one over.)
  • You cannot switch it off while updates are on, because it is part of how the update service works.

Children

The app deals with firearms safety and is not directed at children.
